So you’ve seen our guys and girls in action and want your own red speedo? This is how you do it: STEP 1: JOIN A LIFESAVING CLUB Check out the list of our affiliated lifesaving clubs and find one that’s right for you. Get in touch with them to find out how and when to join. You will need to take a copy of your ID and if you are under 21 you will need one of your parents to help you sign up. STEP 2: GET QUALIFIED! If you are aged 8-14 years you will join up as a nipper and will need to complete your entrance exam to start training. Once you are ready you can do your first competency exam to allow you to compete. For more info on the exam requirements check out the Nipper section on the right. If you are 14 or older you will join as a lifeguard. You will need to pass your Lifeguard Award or Qualifying certificate before you can join our volunteers on the beach but in the meantime our qualified instructor will teach you all the tricks of the trade! For more info on the exam requirements check out the lifeguard section on the right. 30 years or older? No problem! Come join up as a Master and join our Ol’ Ballies on the beach. STEP 3: GET INVOLVED Once you are a qualified lifeguard the learning doesn’t stop! Make sure you join one of the voluntary duty squads at your club and join us on the beach. If you are over 16 you can start training towards your Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) Crewman’s and Drivers certificates. If you prefer the thrill of the first Aid Room then join up for one of our seasonal Level 3 First aid courses.
