ILS RESCUE 2010 RESULTS

Apologies for the delay in getting these results out but rather late than never... Especially when we have a world champion in our midst!
The LSA team that represented South Africa in the national team event Rescue 2010 in Egypt recently consisted of 5 LWP athletes. The team was:
Jasper Mocke (Captain); Shaun Dias; Luke Nisbett; Ryle de Morney; Barjo van Niekerk; Dawid Marais
Jade Antunes (Captain); Michelle Eder; Mandi Maritz; Nicole Brits; Eloise van Gyssen; Dominique Dryding
and was managed by Winston Meyer with Andrew Crook and Hanlie Ochse as coaches.
Team SA finished 5th overall with 482 points behind Italy, Germany, New Zealand and the ever dominant Australia who finished with 800 points! The final rankings, however, dont do justice to our surf competitors who ranked 3rd behind Australia (475 pts) and New Zealand (418 pts) with 332 points. LWP lifeguard and False Bay SLC member, Ryle de Morney, came back from a serious injury in the 11th hour to take 3rd in the flags event and winning the beach sprints.
Ryle was also a member of the mens Taplin Relay team that took 3rd place and included Jasper Mocke, Luke Nisbett and Shaun Dias, as well as the legs behind the winning mens Rescue Tube team consisting of Shaun Dias, Barjo van Niekerk and Dawid Marais.
LWP stalwart Jasper Mocke proved to be the bull-dog that will never let go and came in 2nd for both the mens ski and board races, and 7th in the Ocean man race behind team mate Luke Nisbett who took 3rd spot. He was also a member of the successful SERC team that took bronze. The other 3 members of that team were Barjo van Niekerk, Shaun Dias and our very own Jade Antunes.
Another long-standing LWP competitor, Eloise van Gyssen, pushed hard to get a 6th in the ladies board race and 5th in the Ocean woman race. While Summerstrand SLC's Mandi Maritz showed that the ladies werent going to be outdone and took 3rd in the sprints and flags events, and put her speed to good use in the ladies Taplin relay where she finished 5th alongside Eloise, Michelle Eder and Nicole Brits.
Well done to all our competitors - you keep up the hard work and we'll keep cheering you on from the sidelines!
